Ind vs Eng 3rd Test: Virat Kohli likely to break MS Dhoni’s record in Pink-ball Test- Virat Kohli-led India made a brilliant comeback in the second Test against England in the second Test last week. After opting to opt first, India scored 329 runs and then bowled out the visitors for just 134 runs. India added another 286 runs in their second innings to set a 420 runs target for Root-led England in the fourth innings. England were bowled out in their second innings for just 164 runs. As a result, they lost the match by 317 runs. The four-match Test series is currently level at 1-1.
With the victory, Virat Kohli equalled MS Dhoni’s captaincy record of most Test wins at home. Both Dhoni and Kohli have won 21 matches for India in the longest format. If Kohli’s men are able to register a victory in the historic Pink-ball Test, he will go past MS Dhoni to claim the top spot.
Other skippers in the elite list include:
Mohammad Azharuddin (13 wins)
Sourav Ganguly (10 wins)
Sunil Gavaskar (7 wins)
Kohli has won more matches for India in Tests than any other skippers. Under Kohli, India have emerged victorious in 34 Test matches.
Meanwhile, Virat is only 23 runs behind former India player Dilip Vengsarkar (3730 runs) to become the sixth highest Test run-scorer in India.
Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara need 12 and 45 runs to join Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Vishwanath among the list of players to amass 1,000 runs against England on home soil.
Joe Root likely to break Michael Vaughan’s record
Interestingly, Kohli’s counterpart Joe Root is also only one victory away to break Michael Vaughan’s record of most Test wins for England. While Root has registered 26 wins in 48 Tests, Vaughan has equal number of wins in 51 Test matches.
