DU Admissions: Combined score of CUCET and Class 12 may count
Admissions at Delhi University may soon be overhauled. In a proposal to University Grants Commission, the university has stated that it wants to conduct admissions based on a combination of Class XII board exam marks and the result of Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) that is set to begin this year.

In a proposal to University Grants Commission, the university has stated that it wants to conduct admissions based on a combination of Class XII board exam marks and the result of Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) that is set to begin this year.
In December last year, the Centre had set up a seven-member committee to recommend modalities for a “high-quality aptitude test” for admission to undergraduate programmes of central universities, which would come into effect from the 2021-22 academic session. Earlier, TOI had reported that the computer-based common entrance exam, to be conducted by National Testing Agency, would be mandatory for admission to all central universities.
While sources in Union ministry of education (MoE) stated that aspirants would have to appear for the aptitude test (comprising verbal and quantitative ability and logical reasoning), followed by subject-specific tests, many were concerned about its impact on DU’s admissions, which are largely merit-based.
However, DU acting vice-chancellor PC Joshi, who is a member of the MoE committee, told TOI that students could rest assured that their Class XII marks would count and there would be no compromise on merit.
“CUCET will be finalised soon and DU will adopt it. Naturally, this year admissions will be different. While CUCET’s final form is still awaited, we have already set up our own admission committee in place. We will sync our admissions based on what CUCET suggests,” added Joshi.
Joshi said they would soon finalise the weightage for Class XII marks and CUCET results.
