After being brutally attacked, a panchayat union councillor was beheaded by a gang near Mathupettai in Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu on Monday night.

R Rajesh, 38, was returning home when he was attacked by some gang members with sharp weapons. He was hacked to death and beheaded by them. His severed head was then thrown on the road near Asad Nagar.

Police have registered a case in the matter after transporting Rajesh's dead body and severed head to Thiruvarur Government Hospital.

Rajesh was elected as an independent panchayat union councillor from Alankadu and later extended support to AIADMK.
