Toolkit case: Delhi court grants Disha Ravi bail, says evidence on record not sufficient

Toolkit case: Delhi court grants Disha Ravi bail, says evidence on record not sufficient

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) A Delhi Court on Tuesday granted bail to Bengaluru-based climate activist Disha Ravi in the toolkit case, saying the evidence on record was insufficient.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana said, "Considering the scanty and sketchy evidence on record, I do not find any palpable reason to deny bail". Judge Rana passed the order and asked her to furnish a bail bond of Rs one lakh and two additional sureties.

Advocate Abhinav Sekhri, appearing for Ravi, requested the Judge to reduce the surety amount as Rs 50,000, which was not agreed to.

Ravi was also produced today before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate as her police custody period was expiring today and police filed a petition in a local court, seeking an extension of her custody by another four days.

ACMM Pankaj Sharma disposed of the petition pending the confirmation of bail.

A local court had extended Ravi's custody by 24 hours on Monday.

On February 20, Delhi Police had said that Ravi was preparing the toolkit with those advocating for a Khalistan state and was part of a 'global conspiracy' to defame India and create unrest in the country, 'in the garb of farmers' protest'.

The police alleged that Ravi deleted WhatsApp chats, emails and other evidence and was aware of legal actions she could face.

Earlier, on February 14, a local court sent Ravi to five-day police custody, after the agency said her custodial interrogation was required to probe an alleged larger conspiracy against the Union Government and to ascertain her alleged role relating to the Khalistan movement.

Ravi was arrested by a Cyber Cell team of the Delhi Police from Bengaluru on February 13 and was produced before a court in New Delhi, seeking her police custody for seven days.
