Junior Agronomist required for Churachandpur District, Manipur
Responsibilities:
The Junior Agronomist will be responsible for aggregating and training farmers to adopt Good Agricultural Practices. S/he will establish relationships with smallholder farmers producing horticultural crops in Churachandpur town and other areas in the district. Some of the key activities are:
o S/he will take the lead in ensuring public and private agricultural extension services are accessible by smallholder horticulture farmers.
o S/he will establish a network of Lead Farmers who will be responsible for developing demonstration farms that will be used to train other farmers.
o S/he will act as a facilitator for farmers and other stakeholders in the field of agriculture such as researchers, inputs providers, financial institutions, etc., and any other related services for the farmers.
o S/he will provide recommended solutions to the farmers using knowledge of latest crop production, land reclamation, soil, pest and weed management, etc.
o S/he will travel and meet farmers on a regular basis to gather information on their crops throughout the growing cycle to help improve productivity.
o S/he will encourage them to get soil testing done periodically to help monitor and maintain soil health.
Required skills:
The individual should possess the following:
o Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or work experience in the field of agriculture
o Active listener and analytical mindset

o Willing and ready to travel
o Strong time management skills
o Supportive and kind spirit
o Be able to work in a team environment
o Strong verbal and written communication skills
o Awareness of latest trend and technological developments
o Good record keeping and regular reporting
o Flexible and adaptable to an evolving role
o Fluent in local dialects/ languages with ability to communicate in English
o Basic computer skills
Training after selection: The selected individual will get on-the-job training under the guidance of our Agri Advisor in Khoijuman. A fully funded residential training session will be organized in Bishnupur District.
