TRICHY: As many as 24 people, including bull tamers and spectators, sustained injuries during a jallikattu event at Keelaiyur in Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu on Monday.
Five people, who sustained grievous injuries, were admitted to Ariyalur Government Hospital.
The jallikattu event was organised as part of the Vada Bathrakaliyamman temple festival. The event was launched by government chief whip Thamarai Rajendiran.
As many 475 bulls from Trichy, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Perambalur districts were screened by the animal husbandry department team. Seven bulls, which were identified as medically unfit, were not allowed to enter the arena.
As many as 225 bull tamers were allowed to enter the arena in a phased manner.
The event concluded around 3 pm.
Prizes like vessels and bicycles were given to the best bull tamers and untamed bulls.
