After the Congress-led government quit in Puducherry, the BJP said it is not willing to form the government in the Union Territory.
“There will be a meeting of all the NDA partners in the coming days. But we are very clear that we are not going to form the government,” Nirmal Kumar Surana, BJP in-charge of Puducherry told ET. “We would rather go for elections.”
In the 33-member assembly, the BJP has three MLAs, all nominated members. Its main alliance partner, All India NR Congress, has seven MLAs while the AIADMK has four MLAs. The opposition currently has 14 MLAs. The UT is bound for assembly election along with Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Assam.
“We are not the central party in Puducherry. We will have a meeting of our alliance partners,” said BJP state president V. Saminathan. “One of our primary demands has been to hold local body elections which have not taken place since ages. We would demand for the same from the state election commission as soon as possible.”
