Springbok prop Steven Kitshoff is the frontrunner to replace Siya Kolisi as Stormers and Western Province captain.

It is not a role that 29-year-old is unfamiliar with, having skippered in both Super Rugby and in the Currie Cup whenever Kolisi has been unavailable.

Kolisi's move to the Sharks, however, was finalised this week.

According to a report on Netwerk24, Kitshoff will be unveiled as the franchise's new captain next week.

The report quoted Kitshoff's agent, Hilton Houghton, as saying that the announcement was dependent on Kitshoff's new contract with the union being finalised.

"If we can agree on the terms of the contract, I expect him to be named as captain in the coming week," Houghton told the website.

Kitshoff is already contracted to Western Province until 2023, but this latest negotiation appears to be to improve his existing deal.

WP are also expected to announce several other signings and retentions next week.
