MUMBAI: In yet another incident of 'fatka' theft on the harbour line of Mumbai railways, a 20-year-old student was robbed on Saturday.
This is the fourth incident on harbour line in a span of 7 days. Last Monday, three back-to-back incidents of commuters being looted by 'fatka' thieves were reported within a single day on harbour line.
'Fatka' thieves perch on railway poles and whack commuters standing on the footboard of locals, knocking down their valuables.
In the latest incident, Sahil Pawar, a student based out of Wadala, was travelling in a Panvel-bound local. He was standing on the footboard.
Around 7.40pm, after the train had crossed Tilak Nagar station, someone perched on one of the railway poles whacked Maurya on his arm.
At about 7.10pm, when the train was about to enter Sewri station, Pawar took his phone out of his pocket.
Someone perched on one of the railway poles whacked Pawar on his arm. Pawar dropped his phone as he felt a sharp stab of pain.
In the darkness, he couldn't get a good look at the face of the man who had struck him. But he saw that the man was wearing a black t-shirt.
A complaint has been registered with the Wadala GRP post for the theft of his phone valued at Rs 12,000.
