Bhima Koregaon: Varavara granted bail

Mumbai, Feb 22 (UNI) Bombay High Court on Monday granted bail on medical grounds to 82-year-old poet-activist Varavara Rao who is accused in Bhima Koregaon violence and lodged in Taloja Central Jail.
A bench of Justices SS Shinde and Manish Pitale ordered a six-months bail and asked the accused to stay under the jurisdiction of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The court observed that the jail lacks adequate medical facilities and it would be a violation of human rights and Right to Health of the Octogenarian if the court fails to provide relief.
Rao was arrested on August 28, 2018 and charged under stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was shifted to Nanavati hospital in November 2020 after the intervention of the court as his health deteriorated.
