MANGALURU: Under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, the Union government has entrusted College of Fisheries here with developing an integrated ultra-modern aquaculture unit on its 25 acre land at Yekkur.
This project will be implemented in coordination with NITK (Surathkal) at a cost of Rs 7.9 crore. The ground-breaking ceremony (bhoomi puja) for the project will be held on Tuesday, said Dr A. Senthil Vel, professor and dean (fisheries), Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, College of Fisheries (Mangaluru).
A boat model and a site for the development of Matsyapriyadarshini canteen will also be inaugurated.
The boat model is an attempt to ensure that old boats are discarded scientifically. A detailed presentation will be made on the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampadha Yojana, blue economy, institutional development in the area of fisheries in the state, skill development to local communities, and the like.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, ministers S Angara and Kota Shrinivas Poojari, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Y Bharath Shetty, DC Rajendra KV, KFDC chairman Nithin Kumar, MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar and Dr H D Narayanaswamy, vice-chancellor, KVAFSU (Bidar), will be present.
