Remote monitoring and healthcare access to homes have accelerated during the past year due to the pandemic and its accompanying constraints. Technology has made it possible for doctors to get automated updates about their patients and provide real time medical intervention.

HealthCare at Home, started by Vivek Srivastava in 2012 is a pioneer in bringing personalised and professional home healthcare services in India to allow quick and convenient recovery within the comfort of one’s home.

Some of the key medical services offered by the platform include setting up ICU at home, providing Cancer Care at home, nursing care, physiotherapy services and holistic stroke rehabilitation along with providing a plethora of clinical procedures at home thereby delivering almost 70 per cent of all clinical services at home. HealthCare at Home (HCAH) is backed by the Burman family, the promoters of Dabur and the founders of Healthcare At Home UK.

The healthcare services can be digitally, on telephone, or physically availed. HCAH’s vision is to strive to be the most people-centric, credible and comprehensive home healthcare solution provider in India.

POSITIVE IMPACT DUE TO PANDEMIC

According to Srivastava, the pandemic positively impacted HCAH’s business as the demand for healthcare services outside the hospital during the last year shot up significantly. “We treated more than three lakhs patients in Covid-19, working hand-in-hand with various state governments, hospitals and insurance companies to deliver services to patients. We were also able to set-up a lot of physical infrastructure with corporates and RWAs to enable efficient healthcare services in the distressing times.”

In the pre-pandemic period, all major industry players in the healthcare domain bled because of overheads created while HCAH optimised itself early and become the only player in the country to be EBITDA positive. “The awareness among end customers was very low, hence we targeted doctors to reach customers. We used our sales force and also co-opted pharma’s sales force which acted as a force multiplier. The availability of qualified manpower was another key issue, so we had to create our own cadre to deliver care thus creating capacity for ourselves,” said Srivastava, while stating some of the key challenges of the domain.

FOCUS ON TRAINING

Since its inception, HCAH has invested a lot in training its teams. It has over 70 different policies and procedures, competencies and audits to measure the success of the training practices. In the physiotherapy side, HCAH’s training has been accredited by Continuous Professional Development in UK (CPD) which is recognised globally.

ENTREPRENEURIAL QUALITIES

Pointing out the essentials of being an excellent entrepreneur, Srivastava said, “One trait that I want to see in my fellow entrepreneurs is grit.” He believes that passion and perseverance are paramount as it is not a sprint that we are running but a marathon.”

“A lot many people are trying to become entrepreneurs by being attracted by the glamour of it, but I think for every successful entrepreneur there are thousands who could not make it,” says Srivastava.
