Sherlyn Chopra seeks pre-arrest bail in obscenity case

MUMBAI: Sherlyn Chopra a director of two UK-based companies and an “actor and content creator” has approached the Bombay high court for an anticipatory bail against an FIR lodged by Cyber Cell of Mumbai Police against her in connection with a case of alleged uploading of obscene videos on free-to-view websites on the internet.
The 38-year-old moved HC on February 15, after the sessions court on February 8 rejected her pre-arrest bail application.
She claimed, through her advocate Charanjeet Chanderpal, that she has been a victim and somebody committed theft and uploading the videos without her permission.
One of the two companies makes 'paid adult content', her application said and added, “the infringers who have stolen these contents from the companies provided them freely...”
Justice P D Naik who heard the matter was assured by her lawyer of her cooperation with the probe. The HC had on February 18 posted the matter to February 22 for further hearing.
The prosecution gave an oral assurance of no coercive steps against her till then.
The FIR was filed last November 6 for an offence under section 292 (sale of obscene material) of the Indian Penal Code along with provisions of Information Technology Act and Indecent Representation of Women Act.
She apprehended arrest and hence moved the HC for relief.
