BJP resolution lauds PM Modi for farm reforms, Covid handling

AHEAD OF elections in five crucial states, the BJP on Sunday held a meeting of the party’s national office-bearers and state unit presidents, which passed a resolution praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing in reforms in the agriculture sector and for his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Prime Minister asked the party leaders to grow the organisation with the ideal of “Nation First”.

BJP national general secretary Bhupender Yadav said that the Prime Minister told the party leaders that the “the mission of the BJP, the organisation, is not simply to make government, but the priority is do big things for the country and to make the country bigger”.

“Therefore, the organisation should also develop its efficiency and Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas is the core idea of the BJP. It is with this core idea that the BJP is doing constructive work. Whether it is GST reform, farm reform, freight corridors, the BJP government has constantly done work to take the country forward,” Yadav said.

Sources said the Prime Minister spoke on the criticism of the farm laws, saying that while carrying out big reforms there were always those who “exaggerate” and that the Opposition had themselves asked for these reforms. He said the BJP was becoming bigger with multiple governments in the states and at the Centre and would have to find a “positive and constructive” balance, the sources said.

The Prime Minister also told his party colleagues that the most important motto for the party going forward was “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. When we do these two things, we will also have everyone’s faith and Sabka Vishwaas, the Prime Minister is learnt to have said. He said that party workers should be updated with the developments in the country and the direction of the future, and that it was important to combine social work rooted to the ground with political work.

Yadav said BJP president J P Nadda also addressed the leaders and said that the party must run a nationwide campaign for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, pushing Vocal for Local, encouraging people to use Swadeshi products, and bringing awareness in the youth for startups.

Party leaders said that a political resolution was passed which praised the Prime Minister for his leadership in a difficult year. This resolution will now be discussed and passed at office-bearers’ meetings at the state, district and mandal levels, they said.

BJP national vice-president Raman Singh said, “Today in our political resolution, we thanked Prime Minister Modiji for his courageous, constructive and far-sighted approach during the Covid pandemic. Not only did India keep running a successful fight against Covid, but it set an example in front of the world for what work can be done during Covid.” Singh said that India had sent vaccines to 17 countries, and completed the target of 1 crore vaccinations in 34 days.

He reiterated the party’s support to the farm laws. “The Prime Minister took big decisions for the country which are seen as revolutionary decisions for India’s farmers. That farmers get the right price for their products, their incomes are doubled, they have the freedom to sell anywhere. These three farm bills and the leadership of the Prime Minister, we celebrated them,” he said.

Responding to questions, Singh said that the protests against the farm laws were being kept alive by the Congress and the Left for “politics” and that the government was open to talks with the farmers.

Singh said the five states that are going to the polls in the next few months were also discussed at the meeting. “The incredible support we are getting from the people of West Bengal under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, we expressed faith that the people are tired of the undemocratic, exploitative government there and the BJP will win with full confidence. In Assam, we are talking about the development work done by the state and the Centre, and we hope that we win with a majority. In other places as well, we have grown our popular support. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, our organisation has been strengthened. In Puducherry, the BJP is being seen as a new alternative,” he said.

Later, Bhupender Yadav said the NDA would form government in Puducherry. “In Puducherry, the NDA will form government, in Tamil Nadu the BJP has expressed faith in getting people’s confidence in its alliance with the AIADMK, and in Kerala the BJP will emerge as a strong third pillar,” he said.

Yadav also slammed the Opposition for its role during the pandemic and said the political resolution also mentioned the fear mongering by it, particularly the Congress.
