MUMBAI: Mumbai Police’s crime branch personnel arrested four members of a gang that had stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 18 lakh from the residence of an officer working with a government bank in Goregaon (East) on February 17.
There was no one at the flat when the theft took place.
Those arrested include Ayyapa Subramaniam Shettiyar alias Shetty, Murgan Shetty, Nadeem Shaikh and Jiyarul Shaikh alias Pintu.
A case of house break-in was registered with the Vanrai police station.
A crime branch team, led by Inspector Mahesh Tawde, began a parallel probe to trace the culprits.
There was no CCTV camera around the building.
While going through the footage of other cameras, police personnel Atul Awhad and Santosh Bane identified one of the suspects and stated that he was a history sheeter.
Tawde's team on Saturday learned that the accused would be going to Dahisar to sell the stolen jewellery.
A trap was laid and the four accused were arrested.
Police recovered Rs 7,000 and a major portion of the stolen jewellery worth around Rs 13 lakh from them.
