10-man Swallows maintained their unbeaten start to the DStv Premiership season with a battling 1-1 draw against Cape Town City at the Cape Town stadium on Sunday.

Kgaogelo Sekgota opened the scoring for the visitors but the Citizens hit back with a penalty close to the half hour mark by Mduduzi Mdantsane.

Swallows had to dig deep to earn a point as they had to play the last 25 minutes with 10 men after Junaid Sait was sent off.

The Soweto side made a great start to the contest though as Sekgota fired his team in front in the 13th minute when he cut in from the left and sent a long-range effort past City goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh.

City found the equaliser from the penalty spot after defender Njabulo Ngcobo was adjudged to have fouled Thabo Nodada in the box.

Mdantsane stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick as the teams headed into the half-time break with the scores level.

Swallows' chances of going for maximum points were dealt a severe blow after Sait was shown a straight red card by the referee in the 65th minute after a high challenge on Surprise Ralani.

Despite being a man down though, the Dube Birds still enjoyed more of the chances as Kagiso Malinga and Thabo Mosadi Mosadi couldn't profit.

In the end Swallows would be happy to leave the Mother City with a point as they are now still unbeaten after 16 league games this season.

The Soweto side are still six points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns while the point for City see them remain seventh on the table.
