The 34-year-old played a vital role in the second Test by picking up eight wickets and smashing his fifth Test century– after 3.5 years wait. He was named Player of the match for his all-around efforts to help India level the ongoing series.
Ashwin is only six wickets away to become the fourth Indian bowler to pick 400 wickets in Tests. He is only behind Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434) and Harbhajan Singh (317).
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav also returned to action in the last match. But he didn’t do much of the bowling. After going wicketless in the first innings, Yadav picked a couple of wickets in the second innings. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya is awaiting his chance to play in the Test series after missing out of the first two Tests.
India needs to continue their winning streak if they qualify for the ICC Championship Trophy Final that is slated to take place in Lord’s later this year.
