In a unique protest held in Panaji over the hike in price of domestic LPG cylinder, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress (GPMC) workers led by its president Pratima Coutinho, on Saturday, cooked food on the road on a ‘traditional chulha.’

Coutinho claimed that currently, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder is Rs 783, and added that common man can’t afford to buy a cylinder at this
high price.

“Gas cylinder is one of the essential commodities. When the UPA-led government was providing cylinders at Rs 400, Union Minister Smriti Irani was on the road…where is she now?  She must be receiving cylinders free of cost today as she is in power,” she said.

Speaking further, the GPMC president said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant-led government in the state has failed to provide relief to the people.

“Fuel prices continue to skyrocket for the last two weeks, and now LPG, the inflation is at an all-time high. People are already suffering in the COVID-19 pandemic, and this government is providing no relief to them. The current and the past president of BJP’s women’s wing Sheetal Naik and Sulakshana Sawant…where are they? Why are they quiet now?” Coutinho questioned.
