Vaccination drives thrice a week to increase turnout in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: With a view to increase Covid-19 vaccination turnout, the health department is revising its strategy and plans to set up mass session sites three days a week. The plan is to conduct Covid vaccination drives on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, while regular immunisation will be carried out on Wednesday and Saturday.
On the days that Covid vaccines will be administered, senior officials from various departments like Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon and revenue and police departments will appeal to the staff to take the shots. Seniors who have already taken their first dose will counsel those who have apprehensions regarding the possible side-effects of the vaccine.
Also, five special session sites will be conducted for Gurgaon police personnel on Saturday. “As policemen are busy on weekdays, special sites will be set up for them on Saturday. Depending on the response, more such sites can be set up. Healthcare workers who missed getting the jab earlier can get their first dose at Kalyani session site on Saturday, which will be the last day for them to get their first shot,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
A district task force meeting was conducted on Friday to modify the plan to intensify frontline worker inoculation process. A total of 24,069 healthcare workers and 12,853 frontline workers have received their first shots in Gurgaon. Of these, 2,371 of health workers have received their second doses of the vaccine.
During the meeting, it was observed that only 20% recipients of Panchayati Raj institutions and revenue department each have been vaccinated so far in the city. The departments concerned were directed to motivate recipients to get vaccinated.
Meanwhile, additional chief secretary (health) Rajeev Arora reviewed the data of healthcare workers registered in Gurgaon for getting the vaccine. It was observed that the data of around 9,000 recipients was duplicated and thus, the number of healthcare recipients in Gurgaon now stands at 28,000. Out of these, 90% have already received their first dose.
Arora also approved the health department’s pilot project to enhance the capacity of urban primary health care centres in Gurgaon. The development comes after TOI reported on July 30, 2020 how urban primary centres are tracing Covid patients and providing treatment to them in Gurgaon. As per the pilot project, Gurgaon will develop five model primary health care centres with super-specialty OPDs
