Shiv Pratap's entry in SP may attract Lodhi vote bank

Etawah, Feb 20 (UNI) Joining Samajwadi Party by former Etawah Bharatiya Janata Party's president Shiv Pratap Rajput before the Panchayat elections, as per political analyst, may attract Lodhi vote bank.
Shiv Pratap has been the chief of the Badhpura block, which is considered to be the most significant in Etawah. He has fought elections from the BJP in Auraiyya's Dibiyapur. His brother Avneesh Rajput has assumed the SP's membership. Avneesh is the district vice-president for the Samajwadi Party.
Shiv Pratap is considered to have significant clout among the Lodhi vote bank. The SP leaders think that the party could fare better with Shiv Pratap Rajput in its camp in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Lodhi vote bank is considered extremely important in Etawah. Every party vies for the Lodhi vote bank because it plays a decisive role. The Samajwadi Party had turned the Lodhi vote bank in its favour with the help of late party leader Mahendra Singh Rajput.
No backward caste candidate had been able to win the polls prior to Mahendra Singh Rajput from the Sadar Assembly. The leader was able to hold his position in three consecutive elections. However, after the untimely demise of Rajput at the age of 47 in 2012, the Lodhi's have not been represented on this seat.
As a matter of fact, the sympathy of the Lodhis in Etawah has been with the BJP due to Kalyan Singh. Whether it has been Kalyan Singh, Uma Bharti or Kalyan Singh's son Rajveer Singh, their meetings have been held in Lodhi-dominated areas so that the BJP continues to receive their votes.
