Greta Thunberg tweets in support of Disha Ravi, bats for freedom of speech

NEW DELHI: Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg on Friday tweeted in support of Disha Ravi, the 21-year-old arrested for allegedly being involved in sharing a "toolkit" on social media related to the farmers protest.
"Freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest and assembly are non-negotiable human rights. These must be a fundamental part of any democracy. #StandWithDishaRavi," the Swedish activist said on Twitter, along with a thread by Fridays For Future India about Disha's arrest.

Disha Ravi is one of the early members of the Bengaluru chapter of Fridays For Future (FFF), a global movement for climate justice.
In a series of tweets, FFF India said that it "respectfully, legally and constitutionally" stands in solidarity with Disha Ravi.
"Disha has been an integral part of this movement. Not only has she been voicing out environment concerns in India but strived for the equality and representation of the country's most affected and marginalized groups in the global climate movement's narrative.
"As fellow volunteers we wouldn't stand back to say that she is one of the finest amongst us all. If there is one thing her activism has taught us, it is to raise our voices peacefully and respectfully for those at stake, to ensure justice for everyone," the group tweeted.
It said "we will continue to learn, grow and stand fearlessly for the truth, like Disha always does."
Earlier today, Ravi was sent to three days in jail in connection with her alleged role in spreading the toolkit.
A "toolkit" is a document created to explain any issue. It also provides information on what one needs to do to address the issue. This might include information about petitions, details about protests and mass movements.
The toolkit was shared by Thunberg and several others on social media, kicking up a major controversy.
