NEW DELHI: Commuters at several toll plazas on national highways are facing a long wait — stretching up to half-anhour at some toll plazas — due to glitches in the system after the government mandated all toll lanes as “FASTag lanes”.
Although the National Highways Authority of India sought to play down the issue, sources told TOI, the agency was likely to direct toll plaza operators to allow vehicles without paying toll if there were long queues.
The threshold that will trigger a free passage of vehicles through toll gates is being worked out, they added.
“These provisions have been made and publicised. We have also instructed all banks to allow toll payment through FASTag till the tags are not negative,” said an official.
