Chaminda Vaas appointed Sri Lanka's bowling coach

Colombo, Feb 19 (UNI) Sri Lanka's cricket board on Friday appointed former pacer Chaminda Vaas as national fast bowling coach for their upcoming tour of West Indies.

Vaas was appointed following David Saker's resignation from the post, who stepped down due to personal reasons after having taken up the position in 2019.

Prior to this appointment, Vaas was the fast bowling coach of Sri Lanka Cricket's Advanced Performance Center, working with emerging team and national team players.

During his illustrious international career, Vaas picked up 355 Test wickets in 111 matches and also 400 ODI wickets in 322 games. In addition to being a bowler, Vaas has also scored 3089 runs in Tests with 13 centuries and a half century and 2025 runs in ODIs with a half century.

He retired from Test cricket in 2009, a year after ending his ODI career.

Sri Lanka's multi-format tour, comprising of three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests, will begin on March 3, with all the games scheduled to be played in Antigua behind closed doors.
