Bihar Legislature adjourned till Monday after making obituary references

Patna, Feb 19 ( UNI) The opening day of over a month-long budget session of Bihar Legislature was adjourned till Monday after making obituary references to those who passed away during the intervening period since last session and taking up other business of both the Houses today.
Welcoming the members of the Lower House before the joint session, Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha appealed to the members to cooperate in smooth functioning of the House . He hoped that the members would also help to maintain the dignity of the House. Mr Sinha suggested the new members, elected for the first time to carefully go through the parliamentary rules and regulations.
When the members reassembled after the joint session, the Speaker informed the house that following the request of the lone member of Bahujan Samaj Party from Chainpur assembly segment Jama Khan for merger of his party into JD( U) , Jama Khan was now a member of JD(U) in the Assembly. Business Advisory committees were constituted and the names of the members of the Persiding officers for the current session were announced separately in both the houses. Finance Minister Tarkishor Prasad tabled the Economic Survey for the year 2020-21.
Later, obituary references were made in both the Houses separately to the departed souls including former Governors Buta Singh and M Rama Jois, former MP Kameshwar Singh , former MLAs Dinkar Ram, Upendra Narayan Hazra, Rajnandan Rai , Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi and former MLC Kapil Dev Singh who passed away during the intervening period.
The members kept one minute silence to pay tribute to the departed soul. Soon after obituary references were made, the leader of opposition in the state assembly Tejasvi Prasad Yadav, trying to draw the attention of the House said that the question papers of Social Sciences for matriculation examination was leaked. He also tried to raise the issue of farmer's agitation requesting the Speaker to pay homage to the farmers who lost their lives in due course of agitation. The Speaker, however turning down the request of Mr Yadav adjourned the House for the day.
After adjournment of the House, the entire opposition remained inside the Assembly and kept one minute silence to pay homage in respect of the farmers who lost their lives during the agitation.
