Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the “Shauryanjali Programme”, an event tribute to Bengali revolutionaries to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Describing the “Shauryanjali Programme” as an important program where the youths will travel 900 km in the State, Mr. Shah said there have been attempts so that Netaji was forgotten.

“Efforts were made to ensure Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is forgotten but failed. His legacy of courage, patriotism, sacrifice and selfless service to the nation will continue to inspire generations to come,” Mr Shah said at an event at the National Library.

The Home Minister said the nation loves and remembers Subhas Chandra Bose and the Centre has formed a committee to keep the values and teachings of Bose alive. “The decision taken by Modiji to celebrate Netaji birth anniversary is a big decision that will bring change in the outlook of the people,” he said.

Mr Shah also inaugurated the “'Biplabi Bangla” exhibition on the life of freedom fighters from Bengal like Khudiram Bose and Rash Behari Bose and flagged off a cycle rally. Three teams of cyclists will collectively travel a distance of about 900 km across the State. The teams have been named after Netaji, Khudiram Bose and Rash Behari Bose.

Summons to Shah

Meanwhile, a special court in West Bengal issued summons the Union Home Minister to appear either personally or through a representative on February 22 in connection with a defamation case filed by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Mr Banerjee had filed a defamation case against Mr Shah on August 28, 2018.
