SGX Nifty Down 70 Points; Indicates Negative Opening for Indian Stock Markets
Fri, 19 Feb SGX Nifty | Yash Vora, TM Team

The SGX Nifty opened on a negative note today.

At 8:10 am, it was trading down by 70 points, or 0.5% lower at 15,045 levels.

Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a negative opening for Indian stock markets.

Asian stock markets retreated today following overnight declines for the major indexes on Wall Street, as investors mulled the impact of the recent climb in Treasury yields on equities.

The Nikkei is trading down by 0.9% while the Hang Seng is down 0.7%.

In US stock markets, Wall Street indices ended marginally lower after a new report on the US labor market sharply disappointed, ending a streak of better-than-expected economic data and underscoring the incomplete economic recovery still taking place amid the ongoing pandemic.

The Labor Department's weekly report showed initial jobless claims unexpectedly jumped to a one-month high last week, as the US labor market recovery stagnated.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 100 points, or 0.4%, to drop for the first time in four sessions. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq underperformed for another session, dipping by about 0.7%.

US stock futures are trading lower today, with Dow Futures trading down by 94 points while Nasdaq futures are down 65 points.
