Noida: A 38-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife before hanging himself from a ceiling fan in Wazidpur village in Sector 135 on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Sanjay, who had been staying with his wife, Nisha (35), in a rented accommodation in Wazidpur village for the past 15 days, allegedly had a fight with her before he killed her by pushing her to the floor and strangulating her.
According to neighbours, Sanjay was a native of Lakhimpur Khiri. The couple was out of work and had come to Noida in search of employment. “Nisha’s brother-in-law Indrajeet first brought the couple’s son, Pawan, to Noida about a month ago and helped him get a job. Subsequently, Indrajeet called Sanjay and Nisha to the city and had been staying with them for the past 15 days,” a neighbour told police.
“It seems that Sanjay had an argument with his wife before he killed himself and killed her in a fit of rage. Their room was locked from inside when Indrajeet came and tried to open it. When he got no response, he opened the door from inside by putting his hand inside the room from the window. He found their bodies inside the room,” additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh told TOI.
Singh said that Pawan told them that his parents had a personal dispute and would usually fight with each other.
“The couple was not on good terms with their son who was residing in another rented accommodation in the same building,” the DCP said, adding that the couple’s financial condition could also be a reason behind the incident.
However, the neighbours said that they have never heard the couple fight since they had moved there.
A police officer said that they are also looking at an angle of an extra-marital affair but the same was yet to be confirmed.
