Ministers tweet in Italian, slam Rahul on fishery remark

NEW DELHI: Union ministers Smriti Irani and Giriraj Singh on Wednesday tweeted in Italian to criticise Congress’ Rahul Gandhi for his statement that unlike the agriculture ministry which looked after the interests of farmers, there was no entity tasked with the welfare of ‘sea farmers’, the fishing community.
Giriraj, the fisheries minister, said a separate ministry had been created with a budget of Rs 20,050 crore.
The tweets in Italian were meant to amplify BJP’s charge that Rahul criticises the government without any regard to facts.
“Dear Rahulji, I request you to visit the fisheries ministry or you can call me to the place of your comfort. I will inform you about the various schemes being run by the fisheries ministry in Puducherry and other parts of the country,” Singh tweeted.

The minister’s tweet in Italian followed, saying, “Caro Raul, non esiste un ministero della pesca separato in Italia. Viene sotto ministero delle politiche agricole e forestali.” Translated, it meant, “Dear Rahul, there is no separate ministry of fisheries in Italy. It comes under the ministry of agricultural and forestry policies.”
“Caro Giriraj Singh, sanno solo una cosa. Diffondere bugie, paura e disinformazione. (Dear Giriraj Singh, they only know one thing. Spreading lies, fear and misinformation),” tweeted Irani.
