Vireo Health International Inc., a multi-state cannabis company, said that its affiliate Arizona Natural Remedies Inc. has completed a major expansion of its cultivation and processing facility south of Tucson, Arizona.
The facility's expansion now includes a nine-acre shade house that is expected to bolster Arizona Natural's output capacity of cannabis flower by at least fivefold and meet the rising demand for adult use cannabis in Arizona.
The Arizona facility is now the largest cultivation site in Vireo Health's five core markets of Arizona, Maryland, Minnesota, New Mexico, and New York.
Arizona Natural broke ground on the planned expansion last summer, before residents in Arizona voted to legalize adult-use cannabis.
Arizona commenced adult-use or recreational cannabis sales in January this year after Proposition 207, the Smart and Safe Arizona Act or SSAA, was passed by a majority vote last November.
With adult-use cannabis now legal in the state, Arizona Natural said it is well equipped to cater to the growing adult-use consumer demand at both its dispensary in Phoenix and through wholesale channels.
"With the rapid legalization of adult-use cannabis, the state is facing a potential shortage of cannabis flower. Our expanded facilities and additional growing acreage will create a real opportunity for Vireo Health in Arizona," said Vireo Health Founder and CEO Dr. Kyle Kingsley.
Kingsley added that the company is currently planning an incremental 9-acre shade house in addition to the current facility.
Arizona Natural expects that the expanded facility will add 45 new jobs this year. The company recently said it is offering the option of medical cannabis home delivery to its customers in the Phoenix area.
Vireo Health is licensed to grow or process cannabis in nine markets and operates 15 dispensaries nationwide. The company also holds additional retail licenses in four markets.
