Iran says will reverse decision once US lifts sanctions

Iran says will reverse decision once US lifts sanctions

New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) Iran on Friday said it will reverse its decision on nuclear programme once the US lifts unconditionally the sanctions imposed on the country.

Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh took to Twitter to make Iran's position clear on the issue.

"US acknowledged Pompeo's claims Res. 2231 had no legal validity. We agree.

"In compliance w/ 2231: US unconditionally & effectively lift all sanctions imposed, re-imposed or re-labelled by Trump," Zarif said.

"We will then immediately reverse all remedial measures. Simple: #CommitActMeet," he underlined.

Ministry Spokesperson Khatibzadeh said that the US must lift sanctions to revive P5+1.

“Reminder: Because of US withdrawal from JCPOA, there is NO P5+1. It is now ONLY Iran and P4+1.”

“Remember, Trump left the room and tried to blow it up,” he pointed out.

“Gestures are fine. But to revive P5+1, US must Act: LIFT sanctions. We WILL respond,” he posted on his Twitter account.

“Here is the key sequence: #CommitActMeet,” he repeated what Zarif had said earlier in the day.

The Iranian statement came a day after the Biden administration offered talks with Iran led by European allies.

Iran has set a deadline of February 23 to restrict access to UN nuclear inspectors without an end to Trump's sanction.

The US and European powers have warned that the move would be "dangerous."

But the European Union political director, Enrique Mora, proposed on Twitter an "informal meeting" with Iran that Washington accepted.
