Lucknow, Feb 19 (UNI) Within 48 hours, Uttar Pradesh police cracked the mysteries death of two Dalit teenage girls in Unnao and arrested two youths including a juvenile for the murder.
Inspector-General of Police (IG) Laxmi Singh in a press conference on Friday night disclosed about the arrest and cracking of the case, which has created much political hype in the country.
Ms Singh said the prime accused Vinay was in one-sided love with one of the girl. But when she refused, he gave them water mixed with pesticides in a bottle on Wednesday evening when they were in their agricultural fields. But unfortunately, the girl along with two of her friends consumed it which led to the deaths of two of them while another was admitted to the hospital and recovering.
The IG said that the CDR has given evidence that the accused along with a juvenile was near the girls at the time if the incident. She further said that the accused Vinay has accepted his crime.
Earlier around half a dozen teams formed to crack the mysterious death of two minor Dalit girls in the Asoha block of Unnao district. The last rites of both the deceased girls have been completed amidst tight security in the native village on Friday afternoon.
The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday had already shown his concern over the killing and also instructed top police officers to camp in Unnao and work out the case at the earliest. Adityanath summoned a detailed report from DGP and also directed the best treatment to the third victim battling for life in Kanpur. He said that the entire expenditure incurred on her treatment will be borne by the government.
Sources said that the police engaged in the investigation tried to reach the `suspects’ with the help of the sniffer dogs so they took them to the spot on Friday morning. The dogs led the cops to a local general merchant shop from where the girl before the incident said to have purchased some potato chips packet. The cops seized all the remaining packets and handed them over to the forensic teams for further investigation. The shop owner confirmed that the girls purchased the chips from his shop.
Meanwhile, on Friday, former MP Savitribai Phule got agitated when the cops stopped her from visiting the house of the victim. Later she was allowed to meet the family in police presence.
It may be mentioned that the postmortem report failed to confirm the cause of death of the two victims and doctors who conducted the autopsy had preserved the viscera which would now put some light on the possible reason for the deaths. ``The autopsy report is inconclusive and doctors preserved viscera suspecting poisoning to be the reason behind the deaths ”, disclosed director general of police, HC Awasthi while talking to media persons here on Thursday afternoon. He said that the autopsy was conducted by a panel of doctors.
