State-of-the-art stadium going to come up at Motera

According to sources, one of India’s largest sports enclaves is coming up in Motera which will be a state-of-the-art venue fit to host Olympic events. Motera is readying to host the maiden international cricket match at Sardar Patel Stadium, the world`s largest cricket stadium. 

In fact, the existing Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium will be part of the proposed sports enclave which would be almost three times the size of Motera stadium which is spread over 63 acres. It will also be larger than the Indira Gandhi Sports Arena of Delhi which is spread over102 acres. The prized location will now be connected by the Sabarmati bullet train station, metro, and the BRT within 3 km radius, sources close to the development said.

The enclave can easily host events of Asian and Commonwealth Games and will be the first-of-its-kind multisport facility that includes entertainment, retail, leisure, and sports training, built around a world-class cricket-athletic and indoor games stadium.

Sports enclave to house a FIFA-compliant stadium

The foundation stone for the new sporting mecca for the country, will be laid by President Ram Nath Kovind on February 24 who will also watch the India Vs England test match,” top sources said.

The project is being jointly executed by Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), the central government, and the Gujarat government. The complex will host swimming pools, badminton courts, lawn tennis, hockey, basketball court, and gymnastics facilities.

“A majority of the project will include the Sabarmati Riverfront area and will be spread over an area close to 200 acres,” claims a senior urban development department official in Gandhinagar. Sources also claim that a FIFA-compliant football stadium will also be part of the complex. The official added, “The sports enclave will be a completely integrated sports and leisure complex, a unique concept and destination in India.”
