Gurgaon: A 30-year-old woman died after a speeding car allegedly hit her in Farrukhnagar on Wednesday. The accused driver has been arrested, a police officer said.
The woman, identified as Nisha Rani, a resident of Dhanawas in Farrukhnagar, was on her way back home from the market when she met with the accident and died during treatment at the hospital.
“An EcoSport car driven by one of her neighbours, identified as Somdut Prasad, hit her and she came under the wheels. Prasad had fled from the spot after the accident. Neighbours rushed her to the civil hospital in Sector 10A where she died during treatment,” a police officer said.
Sunil Kumar, eye witness and brother-in-law of the deceased, said Nisha was walking towards her home when the speeding car hit her from behind. “She had sustained serious injuries. We took her to the hospital but she passed away within an hour,” Kumar said, adding that she died due to excessive blood loss.
On the basis of his complaint, a case was registered under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (death by negligence) of IPC at Farrukhnagar police station.
Station house officer (SHO), Farrukhnagar police station said that the suspect was identified and within a few hours of the incident he was arrested from the village. Prasad, a native of UP’s Sitapur, lives in a rented house in the same neighbourhood and works at a private company.
