Covid-19: Lowering guard risky, say experts

Moreover, the reopening of schools is significant, but proper care must be taken, feel the health experts.
CHANDIGARH: The public health experts feel that it is time to adhere to social distancing and wearing masks more strictly as there has been another spike of Covid-19 cases in Kerala and Maharashtra.
The pandemic is not over and there can be a resurgence of more cases in March as natural antibodies might get declined by then. Moreover, the reopening of schools is significant, but proper care must be taken, feel the health experts.

“There is hardly any public place where people are seen wearing masks. Even after the vaccination, it is advised to continue wearing masks and observe the Covid-19 protocols. However, this is seldom seen at public places,” said a public health expert.
He said, “This can control the spread and offer protection.”
There have been cases in Punjab and in the city, some students and teachers were tested positive for the virus during an offline teaching. “Reopening of schools is important, but with caution. Worldwide there have not been many reports where resumption of schools has been found to be a cause of concern. The US started schools before we did,” said a public health expert.
However, there is a fear as the pandemic has been unpredictable for a long time. “The virus has not gone and it can strike with more cases anytime. Unless we are prepared and manage things well, we should not lower our guard. Therefore, the same preventive steps of social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing of masks must be adhered to strictly,” said a public health expert.
There is a sense of fatigue and also a perception that as the number of Covid-19 cases are declining and restrictions being lifted, wearing masks is not required. “Seeing resurgence in other countries and states in India, we should not be so relaxed. Of course, unnecessary fear should not be there, but we must be still cautious,” said an expert.
