Three children from Kerala bag bravery award

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three children from the state have been conferred with national bravery award 2020 instituted by Indian Council for Child Welfare.
The winners include Ummer Mukthar (special award, Malappuram), Jayakrishnan Babu (general award, Wayanad) and Muhammed Hamras K (general award, Malappuram).
Mukhtar, a Class VI student of the Al Ihsan English school, Vengara, had rescued two boys who were drowning in a stream at Vengara in Malappuram. Babu, a Class IX student of Kallodi St Joseph’s high school, too rescued two students who were drowning in a quarryturned waterbody. Hamraz, a Class XI student of Arifra GVHSS, saved the life of a farmer who accidentally slipped and fell into a deep pond meant for storing water for farming purposes. When the farmer who was seen approaching the pond was not found for some time, Hamraz, who was playing football in the field nearby, jumped into the pond and saved the farmer who was lying at the bottom of the pond.
The awards are being given to 25 children across the country for their brave and timely intervention in either stopping a crime, or rescuing a life, without considering their own safety.
All the educational expenses of the award winners including their schooling, graduation, post-graduation and professional courses, will be borne by the council.
