Shares of Hindustan Copper (up 15.14 per cent), Steel Authority of India (up 3.87 per cent), Coal India (up 3.22 per cent), Welspun Corp (up 3.06 per cent) and NMDC (up 2.62 per cent) were among the top gainers.
While Hindustan Zinc (down 0.69 per cent), APL Apollo Tubes (down 0.58 per cent) and JSW Steel (down 0.1 per cent) were the top losers in the index.
The Nifty Metal index was trading 1.41 per cent up at 3626.55 around 02:31PM.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 75.40 points at 15133.5, while the BSE Sensex was down 335.48 points at 51368.35.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 24 were trading in the green, while 26 were in the red.
Shares of PNB, Bank of Baroda, Vodafone Idea, YES Bank and Central Bank Ind were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Central Bank of India, The New India Assurance, IOB, NBCC and Union Bank India hit their fresh 52 week high in today's trade, while Vera Synthetic Ltd., Jiya Eco Products Ltd., Sanwaria Consumer Ltd., Radha Madhav Corporation Ltd., Osia Hyper Retail Ltd. and Marine Electricals (India) Ltd. hit fresh 52 week low in trade.
