IPL 2021 Players' Auction Highlights: The players’ auction for the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) season has concluded. As many as 292 players were on the auction list for just 61 slots. This comprised 164 Indian cricketers, 125 overseas players and three players from Associate Nations. Rajasthan Royals bagged Chris Morris for Rs 16.25 crore -- the most expensive IPL purchase ever. Maxwell for Rs 14.25 crore. Steven Smith was bagged by Delhi Capitals. Chennai Super Kings got Moeen Ali for Rs 7 crore. Punjab Kings got Jhye Richardson for Rs 14 crore. Mumbai Indians picked Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar for his base price of Rs 20 lakh. As many as 1,114 players had initially registered for the auction. The final list of players for the auction was based on the shortlists submitted by the eight franchises. IPL, the T20 cricket tournament organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is likely to return to India after a year’s gap. The 2020 edition was played in October-November in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amid the coronavirus pandemic. This year’s season is expected to be played in the regular April-May window. The IPL Governing Council has not announced the season’s dates so far.
