Extension of Pune metro route till Nigdi, three more stations

On Wednesday, the Maharashtra State Government keeping the demand of residents granted permission to extend the Pune Metro route up to Nigdi. Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation’s (Mahametro) Pune Metro project will require 34 train sets of three coaches each.

On Wednesday, the Maharashtra State Government keeping the demand of residents granted permission to extend the Pune Metro route up to Nigdi. Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation’s (Mahametro) Pune Metro project will require 34 train sets of three coaches each. 

The route will be called Pimpri-Chinchwad to Nigadi corridor no. 1A and the overall estimate for this project will be Rs 946.73 crores. Nigdi is an affluent suburb in the city.

The state government will share the expenses up to Rs 170.3 crores. Earlier the route was from Swargate to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) building in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Now it has been increased by 4.45 km till Nigdi with three stations.

This project will be implemented by Maha-Rail corporation and the central government will hold the share of 10 percent. Some amount will be raised as a loan. The proposed overall estimate is about Rs 170.3 crore. The authorities are expecting 4.95 lakh passengers in 2023 on this route.

The train sets for the Pune Metro project will begin manufacturing from the month of April at the Kolkata-based Titagarh factory. The first train will arrive directly from Italy in May, while the first in-house train from Kolkata will run in August in Pune.
