Unable to repay loan, man kills finance co’s employee

Asking a borrower to pay back equated monthly instalments (EMIs) of his loan cost a young finance professional his life this week. Thesales manager at the Uruli Kanchan branch of the Bajaj Finance company was murdered by the accused customer in a fit of rage, after the latter was unable to repay the required amount despite repeated requests.
The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Ravindra Valkunde. Employed as sales manager at Bajaj Finance, he looked into loan work. His murder took place at Shindawane Road on Tuesday evening, after whichpolice arrested the accused, identified as 27-year-old Rahul Laxman Gadhve, who reportedly surrendered himself to the police after the incident. The case was registered late on Tuesday night at Loni Kalbhor police station (PS) by a colleague of the deceased.
Cops shared, “A cashier at the same company branch who worked with Valkunde, Amol Jogdand, was an eye-witness to the killing and filed the complaint in this matter. It emerged that Gadhve had taken a personal loan of Rs 98,000 from Bajaj Finance a few months ago. However, amid the economic stress of the coronavirus pandemic, Gadhve lost his job, and became incapable of repaying the loan for the moment. Thereafter, Valkunde was repeatedly calling Gadhve to repay the loan.”
On Tuesday, the sales manager called Gadhave for the nth time and requested him to pay up. Once again, Rahul admitted that he did not have the money and could not do the needful yet. There was a debate between both on this matter.
Around 4.45 pm, Valakunde came out of his office talking on the phone, at which point Gadhve suddenly came out of hiding and hit the sales manager on his head and neck with a sharp weapon. The latter was seriously injured and died on the spot.
Senior police inspector (SPI ) Suraj Bandgar of Loni Kalbhor PS said, “A case has been registered against the accused under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was produced in court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody for four days.”
