30 per cent of seized 40 cooking oil samples found unfit for use: FDA

Thane, Feb 18 (UNI) As many as 30 per cent of the samples of cooking oil seized by the Food and Drug Administration from the manufacturers and repackers in Mumbai and Palghar last week were found to be of low standard and unfit for human consumption and sale, it was stated.
The FDA in a raid on four establishments had seized 40 samples of the cooking oil worth Rs 1,60,26,259, an official release issued by the state's prime consumer protection organization said here on Wednesday.
It was found during tests that of total 40 samples, 12 were found to be of sub-standard value.
The FDA has since directed to release those samples that were found fit for use to the establishments and to take strict action on those samples that were found to be of low standard and not certified.

The seized samples comprised of peanut oil, mustard oil, soyabean oil, sunflower oil, palmolin, cottonseed and rice bran oil.
The inspections will continue throughout the state, the release added.
