Nifty Metal in the fast lane, index tops 1.3%; SAIL, MOIL, Hindustan Copper drives

Majority of stocks listed on Nifty Metal were on a bullish note and the index also touched a record high of 3,640.05.

Metal stocks were top picks of Thursday's trading session despite the lacklustre performance of benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50. Majority of stocks listed on Nifty Metal were on a bullish note and the index also touched a record high of 3,640.05.

At around 10.59 am, Nifty Metal was trading at 3,622.95 up 46.90 points or 1.31%.

State-run SAIL was the top gainer on the index surging nearly 5% followed by 2.2% jump each in MOIL and Hindustan Copper.

Stocks like APL Apollo, NALCO and Coal India soared around 2% each.

NALCO has announced that the company will open its share buyback worth Rs 749.1cr on February 25. The buyback programme will be available till March 10.

Stocks like Ratnamani, NMDC, Hindalco, Tata Steel and JSPL advanced between 1-1.5%. While Welspun Corp rose by nearly 1%. However, Hindustan Zinc and Midhani saw a marginal upside.

However, JSW Steel was the top underperformer on the index, however, tumbled marginally.

Nifty 50 was trading at 15,226.75 up 17.85 points or 0.12%. While Sensex traded flat at 51,700.01.
