Maharashtra cabinet cleared skill university proposal
Image used for representational purpose onlyMUMBAI: Maharashtra government to set up a state skill university to provide skilled manpower to various industrial sectors which will also help to boost employability. The state will set aside Rs 50 crore annually for the university as administration and building expenses.
The proposal of establishing a skill university has been cleared by the state cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday. The Bill in this regard will be tabled in the state legislature budget session, scheduled from March 1 in Mumbai.
It has also proposed to set up 'Centers of Excellence’ at six divisions in the state which will function as the divisional centers of the State Skills University by converting ITI centers into Centers of Excellence. All the industrial training institutes in the state, all the skill training institutes can be affiliated with the university to start the courses approved by the university.
Nawab Malik minister for skill development told TOI that this will be the first state-run skill university of the Maharashtra state. He also said that the university will start functioning in the next two years.
“Considering the large industrial network in the state and huge demand the university will help to fulfill the requirement of the industrial sectors and generate jobs as well,” he added. This will be the state-owned first skill university to be established. Currently, the state has a private skill university.
