DMK demo on Feb 22 to condemn steep hike in fuel, LPG prices

Chennai, Feb 17 (UNI) The Opposition DMK in Tamil Nadu

today announced a state-wide protest demonstration on

February 22 against the steep hike in fuel and LPG prices.

In a statement here, DMk President M K Stalin said the

demonstration would be held in front of all the district

headquarters to condemn the steep hike in LPG prices

and to demand the Centre to cut down the excise duty

on petroleum products.

Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited

Tamil Nadu three days back, has given a shocking gift

to the people of the country, he said LPG prices were

twice increased by Rs 50 twice i December and again

twice by Rs 75 this month.

It is highly condemnable as the hike has affected all

sections of the society, he said.

Mr Stalin said despite the crude oil prices coming

down by 50 per cent in the international market, the

BJP-led NDA government at the Centre had not

extended its benefit to the people.
