Chennai, Feb 17 (UNI) The Opposition DMK in Tamil Nadu
today announced a state-wide protest demonstration on
February 22 against the steep hike in fuel and LPG prices.
In a statement here, DMk President M K Stalin said the
demonstration would be held in front of all the district
headquarters to condemn the steep hike in LPG prices
and to demand the Centre to cut down the excise duty
on petroleum products.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited
Tamil Nadu three days back, has given a shocking gift
to the people of the country, he said LPG prices were
twice increased by Rs 50 twice i December and again
twice by Rs 75 this month.
It is highly condemnable as the hike has affected all
sections of the society, he said.
Mr Stalin said despite the crude oil prices coming
down by 50 per cent in the international market, the
BJP-led NDA government at the Centre had not
extended its benefit to the people.
