Manipur media continues protests, condemnations pour in

Imphal, Feb 17 (UNI) Manipur journalists continued their sit-in agitation for the second day on Wednesday at Keishampat, in protest against a bomb attack on media offices and threat to media persons.
People of Manipur could not read newspapers for the fourth day, due to the stir.
A hand grenade was thrown at the office of a local vernacular daily, Poknapham on February 13, which did not explode, following which all scribes decided to stop working. It was detonated by Manipur Police personnel.
The matter was also discussed in the Assembly on Tuesday and Chief Minister N Biren Singh assured to nab the culprits. A four-member SIT is investigating the matter, he said.
The Indian Union of Journalists (IJU) and Manipur Hill Journalists Union, besides all journalist bodies at the district level, have condemned the attack.
The Editors Guild of Manipur (EGM) and the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) have decided to discuss the matter by convening a general body meeting on Thursday.
