CHANDIGARH: Terming the results of the civic body results an ‘endorsement’ of chief minister Amarinder Singh’s ‘development agenda’, Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday announced the launch of ‘Captainfor2022’ campaign, which he called the party's mission for the next Assembly elections.
Hitting at the rival parties, Jakhar said it would be no surprise if SAD and BJP have only pretended to have parted ways over the issue of farm laws and decide to come together now. “People can see through their pretence. There is no difference in anti-people policies of BJP and SAD and that's why Akali Dal is not saying anything to criticise centre's oppressive policies. This shows these three parties are hands in gloves with each other. People of the state have also rejected AAP totally,” he told media persons.
Jakhar said the “landslide victory” in local bodies polls was an endorsement of the chief minister’s “ability to negate grave central efforts to destabilise Punjab,” adding that communal harmony would be the central plank of Congress government.
He added that with the results, the people of the state have given their reply to the way the BJP at the Centre had tried to arm twist the state and also run down the farmers’ agitation. “ Punjabis have categorically rejected the divisive and negative policies of SAD, BJP and AAP,” he claimed.
He criticised the BJP at the Centre for its “nefarious efforts” to thrust an economic blockade on Punjab and by halting train movement in the state. “Punjabis have sent a strong message of unity against this oppressive attitude which the centre must heed with all seriousness,” he said.
He added that it was the first time that the party had constituted a state election committee under Lal Singh to ensure seamless distribution of tickets.
He was joined by Political Secretary to CM Sandeep Sandhu and Punjab Youth Congress president Brinder Singh Dhillon.
