UP farm sector's performance has exposed opposition's lies, says PM

Prime Minister Narndra Modi
LUCKNOW: Amid the ongoing stand-off between farmers and the government over the new farm laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that it was the agricultural sector of UP that exposed the lies and false propaganda peddled by the opposition to incite the farming community.
Modi pointed out that the paddy procurement in UP has already crossed 65 lakh tonnes which were significantly higher than the previous year. The PM praised the Yogi Adityanath government for paying over Rs 1 lakh crore to the cane growers in the past four years. He also backed the Swamitva scheme provisioning documents related to the property to the villagers and safeguarding them from any nefarious encroachment bids.
“This also allays apprehensions propagated by vested interest about the land of farmers being taken away under the new farm laws,” he said, insisting that the government aimed to make the country self-reliant by strengthening the economic conditions of people.
The PM also hailed the state government for its management of the Corona Pandemic. “There would have been a serious blow to India’s image if UP had failed to contain it. The state not only saves the most number of lives but also worked significantly in providing jobs to a large number of people who migrated back to the state following Corona-induced lockdown,” he said, adding that the work done by the state government in the past three to four years has come in handy in its fight against the Coronavirus.
Modi also hailed the state government for bringing down the number of cases of Japanese Encephalitis significantly. The PM pointed that the rise in the number of medical colleges from 14 to 24 in the present times helped in providing the best of the medical facilities. “Twenty-two more medical colleges and two AIIMS would soon come up in the state,” he said, adding that the newly constructed medical colleges in Bahraich would not only serve the people of nearby east UP districts but also the people of Nepal.
The PM also praised the state government for working tirelessly to provide drinking water supply to the households under the Jal Jeevan mission. “It is the farmers and poor who are getting directly benefited because of improvement in the condition of road, water, and power,” he said.
