
Passenger bus falls into canal in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi; around 30 bodies recovered, over 20 missing
At least 40 people lost their lives after a bus carrying 54 passengers fell into a canal in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district on Tuesday morning. According to news agency ANI, seven people have been resuced while search operation is still underway to locate other passengers.
"It is an unfortunate incident. CM has been taking a minute to minute detail of the accident since morning. Two of us are going to Sidhi as per his instructions. I spoke to concerned officers..," Silawat told news agency ANI.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed anguish over the incident and announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.
Police said that the bus was enroute to Rewa from Sidhi when the mishap occurred. Reports suggest that the driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into the Sharda canal under the Rampur police station area.
"There is water in the canal and the bus has been submerged in it. Search is on for passengers," a police official told news agency IANS.
