The Kapoor family received a lot of flak recently after the clan got together for Randhir Kapoor's 74th birthday. Family members including Karisma Kapoor and her kids, Babita, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan with Taimur Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor with Alia Bhatt, Neetu Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Aadar Jain with Tara Sutaria and others were snapped coming and going. Soon after pictures from the meet surfaced on social media, netizens, without mincing words, attacked the family for supposedly 'partying' when they had just lost Rajiv Kapoor, Randhir and late Rishi Kapoor's brother a few days back. Now, Randhir Kapoor has spoken about his recent birthday dinner with family in an interview with Times of India, and said it was a 'solemn affair'. He said, 'It was a small meet-up. A solemn affair. There was no celebration. We are missing my younger brother Rajiv. He passed away last week due to a heart attack. It was a shocking, sudden death. We are yet to come to terms with it.' The Kapoor family has suffered huge losses over the last three years. In October 2018, he lost his mother Krishna Kapoor. In January 2020, Randhir lost his sister Ritu Nanda, in April, his brother Rishi Kapoor died after battling cancer, and now Rajiv, who died after suffering a cardiac arrest at 58. In the same interview, Randhir said, 'That’s destiny I guess. This is a part of life. If you get good things, you must endure the tough times also'. Earlier, while speaking to ETimes about Rajiv, he had said, 'Rajiv was a very gentle and extremely jovial person. It is so tough to believe that he is gone. He had no medical history. His health was simply fine; he had no problems whatsoever.' Rajiv Kapoor passed away on Feb 9. Although he was rushed to a hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. During the lockdown, he shifted into the RK residence in Chembur to stay with his brother. An emotional Randhir, while narrating the sequence of events from the morning of his brother's death, said, 'I have a 24-hour nurse since I have a bit of problem in walking due to a nerve related issue. The nurse went to wake him up in the morning at about 7:30 am and he did not respond. She detected that his pulse was very low and dropping further. We rushed him to the hospital but all efforts to save him failed. And, now I am left alone in this house.'
