Goa likely to receive showers from February 17 to 19

IMD’s observations as of Monday, however, do not indicate any severe rainfall.
PANAJI: The India meteorological department (IMD) has forecast light rain or thundershowers from February 17 to 19 across Goa.
There is a weather system called trough (change in direction of winds) running from coastal Karnataka to Maharashtra, and there is a possibility of its intensification and shift in position by February 17, IMD has stated.
“This will bring moisture over Goa and result in increase in cloud formation. Light rain or thundershowers are possible over Goa as a result,” the meteorological department stated.
While it is not so common for it to rain in February, the prevalence of easterly winds, which have been active since January, are being attributed as the reason for this phenomenon.
“This is not sudden rain since we had rain in January as well. The system was always there but the easterly winds are stronger this season. As a result, troughs are getting generated. Due to this, there was some rain in the first week of January and now similar situations are building up for February 17, 18 and 19,” said IMD scientist Rahul M.
IMD’s observations as of Monday, however, do not indicate any severe rainfall.
“There will be light rainfall and a change from the prevailing weather,” Rahul said.
