PANAJI: With the municipal elections around the corner and the state gearing up for the assembly polls, chief minister Pramod Sawant directed Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) to spruce up and complete infrastructure projects that can be inaugurated and thrown open in the coming months.
Sawant, who chaired the corporation’s board meeting on Monday, also issued directions to ensure that completed projects are inaugurated as soon as possible.
The chief minister, who is the chairman of GSIDC, asked the corporation to identify and shortlist projects that be completed on a fast track mode.
While asking GSIDC to give the final touches for projects that are ready for commissioning, Sawant asked officials to ensure that the new commercial tax office at Altinho is ready for inauguration by February end.
He discussed a proposal to set up a new government school building at Sakhali and asked GSIDC to get a foundation stone laid as soon as possible. Sawant also asked officials to take steps to inaugurate the Cansaulim market complex.
“There was no new projects taken up. We had a deliberation on the ongoing projects. Certain administrative issues and approval for earlier tenders were put before the board,” said managing director of GSIDC Harish Adconkar.
The state election commission is likely to hold elections at 11 municipal councils and the Corporation of the City of Panaji in March and the BJP-led government has been on a spree to inaugurate infrastructure projects. The government is also under pressure to complete projects before the model code of conduct comes in for the 2022 state assembly elections.
Recently, GSIDC laid the foundation stone for the Mapusa bus stand, a project that has been in the pipeline for several years.
